Hosting the Avon Scout Jamboree 2016

We have just waved goodbye to the last of our campers from the Avon Scout Jamboree after the long bank holiday weekend. Arriving eager and full of energy on Friday 27th, and leaving slightly dishevelled on Monday 30th, it looks like everyone had a great time.

We were very proud to have been selected to host the Avon Scouts Jamboree, which only happens once every four years. This year there were 4000 Scouts and Guides from the Avon area that attended the event, as well as several groups of beavers, cubs, explorers & leaders. The Cubs and Beavers were celebrating 100 and 30 year anniversaries, so the Jamboree became even more of a special occasion.

The Windmill Fishery Showground was used to host the main camp area for the weekend. Our Fishery, Golf Academy and FootGolf course were utilised as part of a programme of over 50 activities across four main zones; Skill, World, Adventure and Outdoor activities. The camp had a main stage for entertainment which included the "Avon's Got Talent" contest, which provided a lot of laughs. There was even a funfair and a cinema for the kids to enjoy.

The Jamboree also had a surprise visit from Chief Scout Bear Grylls, which was a huge treat. Grylls gave an inspiration talk and had one-on-one sessions with a lot of the Scouts, including the two children who designed the 2016 jamboree badge.

The Windmill Golf Academy hosted all of the golfing events at the Jamboree. We had the Driving Range, Mini Crazy Golf and Pitch and Splash target to offer. Our " golfing army" of staff and helpers did a fantastic job encouraging and assisting the vast range of youngsters, helping them to get the most out of their experience with us. We would like to thank our team again for the amazing help they provided. Over the weekend, the golf team had over 2,300 children and young adults try the various golfing activities on offer. It was great to see the children throwing themselves into the sport, and we are sure we will be seeing a lot of them again soon with their families.

We love golf because it offers opportunities for everyone, catering for abled and differently abled individuals.  We have an extensive background in teaching golf, having worked with many cubs, scouts, beavers, football clubs, church groups, SEN schools, local primary and secondary schools, and private and public companies, to name just a few. We love hearing how fun the children find our activities, and we are happy to provide a healthy and enjoyable way for children and adults to unwind. We actively engage in securing funding for several age groups and demographics to help keep children active at competitive prices. Our facility is floodlit and always proves to be popular year round.

Family golf

Aside from Scouting bonanzas, we offer loads of other social events. From corporate team building events, to Stag and Hen weekends and birthday parties, there are loads of opportunities to actively have fun with your friends.  Take your first "golfing steps" with us, or try an archery taster session, perhaps even clay and air rifle shooting. You could also pop over to our popular fishing lakes or try your luck at footgolf.
