There are several types of archery practiced in the UK today. The main types are target, field, clout, and flight, and each requires slightly different shooting methods and equipment. Target archery is the type of archery practised at the Olympics, and is the version most beginners learn first. Archers shoot a set number of arrows at targets set at specified distances on a flat surface. This is the type of archery offered here at Windmill.
Archery is an inclusive sport suitable for all ages and abilities as demonstrated by the fact that the modern Paralympic Games was born at Stoke Mandeville on July 29th, 1948 with an archery competition for 16 injured service men and women. Accessibility in archery continues to grow and at Windmill, our coach Chris has a background of working in education with young people and adults with various physical and learning challenges. The covered archery range is wheelchair accessible and we have bows, arrows and archery games/activities suitable for a wide range of ages as well.
