We welcome AGB registered archers of all levels especially novices and will develop specific core skills in a supportive group environment.

Boost archery

is an initiative brought to you by Archery GB.

These sessions are aimed at helping all archers experience success and a sense of progress in their personal development.

Each course will be developed together with the participants involved to ensure that everyone is able to engage in the learning process together. There are many skills to develop in the sport ranging from the physical to the emotional, mental and technical aspects. As a group, we will set out our personal aims and discuss as a group how best to support each other to develop over the course including how we can practice the skills we learn between sessions. An example outline of the course would be as follows with each number being an individual session:

  1. (Double session = 3 hrs): Introduction to the course including base level assessment (physical and mental focus), a discussion of our personal development aims (classroom based), and basic bow setup and maintenance session.
  2. (1.5 hrs): Basic Warm-ups, Cool-downs, and injury prevention. Drills and Skills with focus on improving stance, posture and alignment. Basic peer analysis and feedback techniques.
  3. (1.5 hrs): More drills and skills focusing on shot set-up, muscular movements, and further bow tuning. Further peer analysis and support and intro to using video/filming technology.
  4. (1.5 hrs): Further development of shot execution focusing on hook and release hand. Using competition to effectively improve performance (mental and emotional development).
  5. (1.5 hrs): Putting it all together – The shot sequence and repetitive execution. Comparison to your first session, self evaluation and peer feedback of development. What are your next goals?

These sessions take place over a number of weeks with a period of time in between to allow for personal practice and reflection. During the month of February, participants are given the option of sending video footage to coach Chris, who will provide personal development tips and fortnightly feedback.

Dates and Times are as follows:

Session 1: Thursday 23rd Jan 17:00 – 20:20 (double session with refreshment break)

Session 2: Thursday 31st Jan 17:00 – 18:30

Session 3: Thursday 12th Jan 17:00 – 18:30

Session 4: Thursday 26th Mar 17:00 – 18:30

Session 5: Thursday 2nd Apr 17:00 – 18:30

Places are limited to 8 participants over all to ensure that everyone has the best opportunity to access personal coaching time however we also need a minimum of 3 to run the course.
